I once heard it said "numbers don’t count
all that much, but it is an easy way for God to count up all the things that do
matter." That being said here are a few numbers that stand out
from our time here in Roatan!
19 – number of children in the Sandy Bay
Lighthouse Ministries Children’s Home.
2 – number of hours that Roatan is behind
Eastern Standard Time in the US.
5 – number of miles wide that the island of
Roatan is … it is 44 miles long and the largest of all the Bay Islands of Honduras.
50 – number that you should have on your
sunscreen bottle if you don’t want to get burned here in Roatan!
20 – number of Limpiras (the Honduran currency)
you can get for $1 U.S. dollar.
18 – number of drywall pieces the team hung, spackled, primed, and painted, while working to build the latest classroom here.
12:12 – number of the verse rom 1 Corinthians
that we discussed in one of team debriefs (We are many parts... but one body!)
10 – number of bags packed to the brim with food
for our community visit to Oak Ridge (a very poor community on the
other side of the island who we visited with and were able to bless them with
food and basic supplies).
700+ - number of a certain type of canvas shoe given out by our
students to children in need at local schools. They are going
back tomorrow to give out roughly another 600! More on this incredible story
later from Amy.
4X – number by which the population of Roatan
has grown (from 30,000 to 120,000) in the last 20 years (due primarily to people looking for work from the
mainland).
72 – number of Mazdas that Brad, Chris, and Cole
counted on our Island Tour
17 – number of John Carroll Seniors who
sacrificed and served here in 2014.
11 – number of days spent by our team here in
Roatan, Honduras
5 – number of countries that John Carroll plans
to have international service trips to by 2018. (We already have two this year –
Honduras and Dominican Republic and are planning to add Haiti next year).
225 - number of mini-shrimps cooked into our shrimp enchilladas made for dinner last night.
1 - number of people it takes to make a difference in this world.
